Adding some Spice to the Flavour Conference 2010

PicFlips was honored to be a part of the amazing production put on by Fellowship Church in Grapevine, TXFlavour Conference 2010! We really love doing church events. We knew it was going to be a good night when we first drove in the parking lot. Usually, when we drive through a parking lot, the attendants simply wave us in the right direction. Not at Fellowship Church. The guys were smiling and waving to us as we drove in – a welcome change from the ordinary. (Hey, it’s the little things that impress me.)

The theme of the evening was The Wizard of Oz.  Even the golf carts were festive!  The black-and-white large foyer was transformed as the women sat inside the conference into a beautiful, colorful masterpiece.  We had 2 stations with an extra production station on each so we were really cranking out the flipbooks!  Adding the extra production station to each studio was a great idea because we were able to make flip books right away for each person in the video.

It was a wonderful event and we want to thank Fellowship Church for having us.  Not a Wicked Witch in sight…we were surrounded by beautiful women with a lot of heart, wisdom and courage!

If you are throwing a bash in Memphis, look these guys up.

A big THANK YOU to Mahaffey Tents for bringing PicFlips all the way from Dallas to Memphis for their Open House!  What a beautiful showcase of their talent!  We met so many wonderful people who had a blast making their flip book videos.  It was the first time that the event industry in Memphis had been exposed to the ‘mobile flipbook studio’ and these custom photo party favors were quite the hit!

But wait until I tell you about the rest of the event – delicious, melt-in-your-mouth food from CFY Catering (soooo good!), unbelievable florals by Haute Horticulture (seriously…unbelievable), design work by Social Butterflies (what a cute name!) and fabulous music (wish I would have caught the singer and the bands’ name).  Check out the gorgeous photos from Creation Studios!  Kirk Houston of MarriedinMemphis.com Television and Mid-South Wedding Show was kind enough to include us in his video of the evening:

The good news is that we now have a licensee in Tennessee!  Flipbook Locations

And, of course, we couldn’t leave Memphis without some Neely’s Bbq!  Thank you for your hospitality, Memphis!

Celebrating 2010 at PicFlips!

To celebrate the new decade, we’ve decided to narrow down the Top 10 reasons why we love what we do…*ahem*….

10.) We’ve met a whole new group of friends in the event industry. Talk about a fun group of people to hang out with! Their parties ROCK!!

9.) What started out as a fun idea in our friend’s creative mind blossomed into a concept seen all over the world.

8.) At PicFlips, we include custom designed and professionally printed flipbook covers at no extra cost. Personally, I (Amy) have always been the creative, free-spirit, so it thrills me to no end to capture the atmosphere and color palette of the event on a flipbook cover. PicFlips flipbook covers can be customized to fit any party or event – the perfect keepsake for partygoers to take home!

7.) We get paid to go to parties and create memories for the guests…that’s my definition of a dream job!

6.) People of all ages love the flipbooks! Children, teens, college kids, adults, grandparents…it’s a product that spans the generations.

5.) The flip book party favor is so universal that it fits in with almost any party – we’ve done birthday parties for a 1 year old to a 70 year old; a baby shower for triplets and a debutante ball for 5; a tour with Bloomingdale’s across the northeast and the launch of Guitar Hero; parties with budgets of a couple thousand dollars to $100,000+; non-profit galas to help fight hunger, cancer, abuse, childhood disease; celebrations of so many kinds!

4.) Ahhh, the nostalgia of flip books…but with the twist of technology. It’s a beautiful thing.

3.) We’ve learned concepts while running this business that they DON’T teach you in college. Some things you just have to experience yourself. If there was a Doctorate in making flipbooks, we would be the professors. It’s a joy to teach other companies around the world what we have learned through years of trial and error.

2.) The PicFlips patent-pending process is so QUICK! Less than 90 seconds per book from start-to-finish right there at the party – made while the guests watch. They love it!

1.) Even after almost 4 years of making flipbooks at events, we never tire of watching guests experience the flipbooks for the first time. You should see their faces light up when they flip through their books for the first time with their photos inside. It’s the same innocent wonder as a kid opening a Christmas present….yeah, it’s that good.

Here’s to another great year in 2010!

Fabulous Bar/Bat Mitzvah Tip…

Shawn and Mandi worked at Carly’s Bat Mitzvah this weekend at The Apartment – a classy, swanky, hip venue that’s associated with Todd Events.  It is such an amazing venue that it doesn’t even need much decor added.  If you haven’t checked out the venue or todd.event design.creative services, you’re missing something amazing for your next soiree.  Check out their Ideas tab for inspiration.

One of the elements of the party that stood out to Shawn came when it was time for the montage – the video that showed Carly’s life and accomplishments via photos.  As the kids sat down to watch the montage, they were handed milk and a huge cookie.  Simple but brilliant.  Everyone was quiet, fully focused, and it made the mini-movie that much more enjoyable.  Any time you can create an experience and incorporate multiple senses, the event stays with you longer.

This is also one of the reasons flip books are such a hit at parties.  Guests dress up in feather boas or hats, act out a short skit, watch the video replay on the screen…and less than 90 seconds later, thumb through a flipbook with their video inside.  Instead of simply standing in front of a screen and smiling for a photo, the flip books create an experience.  An experience that many people still have not tried yet, which makes the party stand out even more.

So, next time you are throwing a dinner party with friends or planning a Bar or Bat Mitzvah celebration for 200, think about how you can create an experience rather than simply an event.  Appealing to the senses in subtle ways is a great way to make your party different from the next.
