PicFlips – the mobile flipbook studio

PicFlips is based out of the DFW area in Texas.  We’re the ones who started the flipbook craze at events and have the patent to prove it!  We’ve been doing events in the Dallas Fort Worth area for 5 years now and have become quite the fixture at parties and events in the metroplex…from heart-warming non-profit galas and action-packed bar/bat mitzvahs to dreamy weddings and memory-filled proms.  We have the best job ever because we go to parties for a living!  The PicFlips team is so privileged to be included in our client’s most precious milestones and events, and we take pride in the job we do!

We have a professional graphic designer who tailors the custom covers to match each event, which are then beautifully printed on glossy paper by a local print shop.  Our event teams are thoroughly trained and held to a high standard.  Even our props are specifically chosen to go along with the theme and colors of the party!

We hope our passion comes through in our work.  We do more than take photos.  PicFlips captures memories and wraps it up in a sweet little pocket-sized book.  No batteries required, the flipbooks fit easily in a pocket or purse, and they can be flipped through anytime you need a good laugh or when you want to re-live that memory.

Ahhh…2011….the beginning of a new year and fresh starts.  One of the things I look forward to with the new year is the influx of requests we get for the flipbook studio from newly-engaged brides-to-be (and a few groom-to-be that are helping in the planning as well – you go, guys!).

Sure, we exhibit at the Dallas Bridal Show (bridalshowsinc.com) and carefully choose placements on the internet, but the majority of our work comes from referrals and word-of-mouth from guests who have seen us at other parties.  (That’s when you know you are doing a great job!) Even the best employee-boss relationships can get trying at times.  To put a fun twist on this concept, the Todd Events team created a game for their employee party by creating a wall of balloons with Todd Fiscus’ smiling face and handing the staff darts to pop the balloons and win prizes.  “Does Todd know about this?!” I overheard one team member ask.  “Yes, it was his idea!” came the reply.

The PicFlips mobile flipbook studio is a fun way to entertain your guests at an event with a quick, custom-made party favor.  We average 45-50 flipbooks per hour, which is great for most weddings, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, sorority parties and milestone birthdays.  But what do you do if you have a large crowd and need more books per hour?

Before we offer our solutions, think about the overall goal of your party and what you want to accomplish:

1.)  What is the size of your venue?  Do you want your guests to mix, mingle and move around the large area, or do you have a limited area to work with?

2.)  What time frame will you have for the flipbooks?  Is there a specific schedule of events (example: cocktail hour, dinner, and an auction for a non-profit fundraiser) or is it a relaxed schedule (example: socialize, eat & drink, mix & mingle at a 25th Anniversary Party)?

3.)  How many guests are you expecting?

4.)  Will this be an event with the majority of guests as families or couples, or do you expect to have a lot of guests from different households? (What an odd question, right?  The reason we ask this is that most of the time, couples just ask for one book, while friends all want their own book to take home.)

Now that you have a clear goal, let’s talk about options:

Option #1: We run 8 mobile flipbook studios here in the Dallas area.  If you need multiple studios for your large party, we can usually accommodate.  Multiply the number of studios by our hourly rate and *viola!* you have your price. (Call or email for pricing – sorry, we don’t list this online.)  Each studio takes up a 10′x10′ area.

Option #2: Our regular “standard” studio produces 45-50 flipbooks per hour on average.  However, we also have “deluxe” studios available, which include an extra staff and additional equipment to produce 90-100 flipbooks per hour.  This option is less expensive that 2 “standard” studios because we have to bring less equipment and hire less staff, so we pass the savings on to you.  It also remains inside the original 10′x10′ area.

To celebrate the new decade, we’ve decided to narrow down the Top 10 reasons why we love what we do…*ahem*….

10.) We’ve met a whole new group of friends in the event industry. Talk about a fun group of people to hang out with! Their parties ROCK!!

9.) What started out as a fun idea in our friend’s creative mind blossomed into a concept seen all over the world.

Personally, I (Amy) have always been the creative, free-spirit, so it thrills me to no end to capture the atmosphere and color palette of the event on a flipbook cover. 7.) We get paid to go to parties and create memories for the guests…that’s my definition of a dream job!

6.) People of all ages love the flipbooks! Children, teens, college kids, adults, grandparents…it’s a product that spans the generations.

The flip book party favor is so universal that it fits in with almost any party – we’ve done birthday parties for a 1 year old to a 70 year old; a baby shower for triplets and a debutante ball for 5; a tour with Bloomingdale’s across the northeast and the launch of Guitar Hero; parties with budgets of a couple thousand dollars to $100,000+; non-profit galas to help fight hunger, cancer, abuse, childhood disease; celebrations of so many kinds!

If there was a Doctorate in making flipbooks, we would be the professors. It’s a joy to teach other companies around the world what we have learned through years of trial and error.

1.) Even after almost 4 years of making flipbooks at events, we never tire of watching guests experience the flipbooks for the first time. You should see their faces light up when they flip through their books for the first time with their photos inside. It’s the same innocent wonder as a kid opening a Christmas present….yeah, it’s that good.
