Standing Out from the Crowd

Weddings are such a special celebration.  The joining of two families.  Months or year(s) of preparation.  A sizeable amount on money spent to feed, entertain and dress for this day.  And when you go to a wedding, you pretty much know what to expect.  That’s why today’s brides and groom want to add personalized touches to give their loved ones a day to remember!

We recently participated in an incredibly fun engagement party…that turned into a SURPRISE WEDDING!  And Kellie and Will pulled it off without a hint thanks to the amazingly detailed coordination by the team at As You Wish Events.  I believe the Father’s speech during the cocktail hour went something like this, “Let’s all raise a glass to toast the engagement of Kellie and Will!  ….But why wait?  Let’s just have the wedding now!” and the bridesmaids and groomsmen were whisked off to the side and the guests were ushered into the beautifully decorated ceremony.  You just know that was the top talk at the office on Monday!

But you don’t have to throw a surprise wedding to make your special day stand out from the rest.  Many brides and groom are finding ways to give this celebration their own touches.   According to the 2015 Newlywed Report, 1 out of 3 couples write their own vows.  Although 72% of couples still do a tiered wedding cake, others are opting for a different type of dessert, like doughnuts.  Over 50% of couples create their own hashtag for social media so guests can follow along (we’ve added many cute ones to the flipbook covers to tie everything together!).  Even more couples create wedding websites to keep their guests informed of the festivities in case the invitation gets misplaced.

PicFlips Flipbooks is celebrating 10 YEARS of serving the DFW wedding community!  I just love receiving thank you notes in the mail from event planners and newlyweds thanking us for a job well done.  After all of these years making memories for brides, grooms and their guests, there are so many people in DFW alone who have not experienced the PicFlips mobile flipbook studio!  Weddings definitely stand out from the crowd when they bring in the flipbook studio instead of a typical photo booth.  It’s funny – the GIF photo booth is making it’s way into the market, but PicFlips can give you both a printed out flipbook and you can add on Social Media Sharing to share the GIF images on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or email.

Photo booths and GIF booths are fabulous, but there’s just something about holding a flip book in your hand, and feeling the pages flip through your fingers, as the smile creeps across your face.  It triggers the memory of making the video with your friends, while celebrating the marriage of people you love.  And that, my friends, is why we love what we do.

Real Life Weddings: Hanna & Adrian

Every girl dreams of her fairy-tale wedding day complete with the gorgeous flowers, exquisite decorations, and of course, the perfect guy, but a few weddings look like they fell out of a storybook.   This was exactly how we felt for Hanna and Adrian’s wedding.  Walking into this wedding, I saw mine and probably many girls, shabby-chic, fairy-tale, dream wedding come to life.  It was the ultimate jaw-dropping, Pinterest-worthy wedding that many brides’ Pinterest boards are dotted with, but few see in person.  We were so lucky to be a part of it!

The wedding and reception was held at Poetry Springs, located just east of Dallas.  Set back from the main road, this Hillcountry-esque venue is perfect for brides looking for the burlap-and-lace or country chic look.  It features a large reception hall, complete with high ceilings, wooden rafters, a stage, and a grand staircase, perfect for an eye-catching entrance, and just outside is a picturesque ceremony site.

The event designer took burlap and lace/shabby chic to a whole new level, creating several unique seating areas, complete with ornate statues, wooden clocks, antique books, and different lounging sofas, ottomans, and chairs.  The details in each area were so precise and beautiful that I thought we had walked into a movie set for Alice in Wonderland.  There was even a canvas and burlap teepee in the corner for pictures!  The event designers could not stop there. They built us a custom backdrop for our flipbook videos, complete within a light up L-O-V-E sign, vintage couch, and pergola made out of old bed springs.  It was unreal!  A dessert bar lined one entire side of the venue, dotted with sweets to satisfy everyone’s palette, and a drink bar was complete with a special bride and groom “love potion”.  Everything dripped in hydrangeas, roses, and fluffy peonies, and the sweet aroma of flowers filled the room.

The rain has been off and all day, but the bride, unnerved by a little water, decided to continue with the outdoor ceremony, and just before guests began to arrive and take their seats, the clouds broke parted, the sun shined through, and the outdoor site was perfect.  A nice breeze even came through, so guests were handed monogrammed pashminas to stay warm.  We were lucky enough to peek through the windows to the outdoor ceremony site and see the bride walking down the aisle in her lace-covered dress.  It was gorgeous.

Guests trickled into the reception hall after the ceremony and were greeted with mason jar cocktails and bite-size hors d’oeuvres.  I could see in their faces that they too were taken aback by the exquisite decor and flowery aroma.  Soon after, the music was turned up, drinks began to flow, and the celebration really began.

Friends and family quickly lined up to make a custom flipbook, and were smitten over the handmade backdrop and shabby chic props they could use in their video.  The PicFlips photo booth soon became the hit of the party, with family and friends trying to outdo each other in who could make a funnier or more creative video.  The bride and groom met in the police academy (how cute is that?!), so many of the guests were police officers, who made hilarious arresting-each-other flipbooks.

Toast were made, bouquets were tossed, and as the last dance ended, guests began to lineup outside where the bride and grooms exit.  Soon, cheers erupted as flutter-fetti filled the air and the newlyweds ran through smiling to their limousine.

What a beautiful start to a new life together.  Congratulations, Hanna and Adrian!

“I don’t always make flipbooks, but when I do, I prefer PicFlips.”

When Dos Equis announces it’s going to throw a party, you just KNOW it’s going to be a good time.  And as always, Dos Equis never disappoints.  Set in Lower Greenville at O.T. Tavern, Thrillist and Dos Equis threw a Dos de Mayo celebration that would certainly make The Most Interesting Man in the World proud, including a contortionist, a stuntman who swallowed swords and rode a unicycle while getting out of a straight-jacket, and PicFlips’ mobile flipbook studio.  In between getting a drink and watching the NBA Playoff game, guests grabbed their friends and some props to make custom flipbooks and walked away with an awesome keepsake to remember the night.  The sword-swallower even jumped in the photo studio to let some gorgeous ladies draw the sword from his throat.  I can absolutely say in the 8 years we have been making flipbooks, this was a first.  And we’ve seen some pretty crazy stuff!

Flipbooks are perfect for promotional events like this.  Custom designed covers are ideal to highlight the marketing message, pay tribute to sponsors and tie in the giveaway to the rest of the event.  It’s a keepsake that patrons will show to their co-workers, friends and family long after the event is over.
